Born in Taipei, Taiwan, in 1989, Kaï-Chun Chang lives in Paris and work at Issy-les-Moulineaux after studying at the École Nationale Supérieure des Beaux-Arts de Paris (dip. 2018).
His artistic focus lies primarily in painting, yet extends to include monotype, collage, photography, and sculpture. His initial training in traditional Chinese ink painting led him to explore the relationship between volatile phenomena and state of mind. He reveals the fragility of human existence through the representation of light. Between the smooth surface of the canvas and the pictorial depth, the transparent layers of acrylic paint bring forth spiritual spaces and landscapes. He now treats light in a more métaphysical manner, imbuing it with texuture and tactility. His spectrum unfolds between radiant, crystalline refractions and points of light emerging from darkness, where the fragility of the human condition is quietly revealed.
In 2023, Kaï-Chun Chang was selected for the 73rd edition of the Jeune Création Prize. He was also among the finalists of the International Painting Prize of Vitry-sur-Seine in 2018. His works have entered public collections in France, China, and Taiwan, as well as significant private collections in France, Italy, Switzerland and elsewhere. His latest solo exhibition was held at the Romero Paprocki Gallery in October 2024.
