Overview
Kaï-Chun Chang was born in Taipei, Taiwan, in 1989 and currently lives and works in Paris. After completing his studies at Beaux-Arts de Paris in 2018, he developed a practice that stands at the intersection of painting and photography, representation and abstraction.

Steeped in the traditions of Chinese ink painting, Chang transforms his early training into a language of light, color, and sensation. His work explores volatile phenomena, approaching them not merely as visual subjects but as states of mind. Through delicate layering and careful extraction, he evokes a subtle, metaphysical atmosphere that transforms perception.

Working primarily with acrylic on canvas, he reveals transparent strata that oscillate between smooth surface and pictorial depth. Spatial perception emerges through color gradients and vibrant tonal shifts, where luminous forms dissolve and reappear, evoking memory and pure sensation. Chang’s works can be seen as contemplative interior landscapes. Positioned between material presence and immaterial suggestion, they sustain a subtle spiritual dimension. In his recent practice, light becomes increasingly tactile and textured, ranging from crystalline refractions to faint points glowing from darkness. Within these quiet tensions, a thoughtful state of being is gently revealed.
