WORKS
With flowing gradients and multi-layered paint structures, the artist Tycjan Knut pushes Italian earth pigments to their fullest saturation in Still-Tone. Knut's new exhibition is now on view at Cadogan Solo, Milan, until late May.
Sienna and umber hues interact with sharp geometric edges, where subtle shadows create an illusion of depth. Painted in Florence - a place where the artist has been many times -, these works merge the natural harmony of Mediterranean earth tones and light with a modern approach to post-minimalist painting, balancing material richness with a refined structure.
Each of Knut's paintings reveals itself gradually, inviting the viewer to devote time and attention to it: what appears at first glance may change with closer observation. By superimposing layers of colour that evoke an organic and natural order, the artist tricks the eye into perceiving new depth in strongly structured objects.
