Cadogan Gallery is pleased to present “Rare Earth”, a new exhibition by Deborah Tarr, opening in our London gallery on Harriet Street on 29 May.

In this contemplative body of work, rocks and mountains emerge as both resolutely physical and abstracted forms. Through a poised interplay of figuration and abstraction, Tarr reduces the landscape to line and shape—yet the earth remains tangibly present and palpably alive. Her compositions possess a quiet gravity; organic forms appear at once essential and timeless, imbued with a quiet, restorative force.

These new works extend far beyond the purely aesthetic. Mountains assert themselves with a rugged, unyielding presence; oceans stretch deep into unknowable depths. Drawing from elemental forces—the shifting weather, lunar rhythms, the ceaseless motion of the sea—Tarr renders the natural world as it truly is: turbulent, powerful, and alive. Yet within this wildness lies a deep sense of stillness. Her brushstrokes are deliberate, her compositions finely attuned, evoking a meditative calm amidst the grittiness of the wild landscapes. Like the land itself, Tarr’s paintings pulse with a living, elemental energy.
