Tycjan Knut: On Formality
Upcoming exhibition
Cadogan Gallery is pleased to announce "On Formality", a solo exhibition by Tycjan Knut opening on 12 February.
"On Formality" explores formal thinking pushed beyond the square and the expected frame. Stepping outside traditional formats, Tycjan Knut breaks the relationship between figure and background through custom-shaped canvases that resist completion and balance. Alongside this, a new series emerges: paintings built from overlapping, ultra-thin airbrushed lines, developed through a process closer to textile construction than gesture, where form is woven rather than drawn.
The works were created over months spent in isolation in the Polish countryside, in a village called Dry Forest, without internet access. This distance from distraction allowed a concentrated engagement with structure, restraint, and the quiet tension between control and dissolution.
