Chiara Capellini: Fields

  • 13.8 billion years ago.

  • Did fields and particles emerge with the Big Bang, or could they have existed before it?

Can quantum fields exist in a superposition of different states, as imagined in Schrödinger’s cat experiment?

How might we visualise the Higgs, gluon, quark and electromagnetic fields?

Could the mind also have a field that follows the laws of quantum physics?

How many primordial neutrinos pass through a circular canvas 192 cm in diameter every second?

  • WHAT EXIST BEFORE OBSERVATION? WHAT IS THERE IN WHAT WE CALL NOTHINGNESS? WHAT IS IN THE MIND? IMAGINATION? CONSCIOUSNESS? AND...

    WHAT EXIST BEFORE OBSERVATION?
WHAT IS THERE IN WHAT WE CALL NOTHINGNESS?
WHAT IS IN THE MIND? IMAGINATION? CONSCIOUSNESS?
AND IN PHYSICAL SPACE? FLUCTUATIONS? NEUTRINOS?

Chiara Capellini explores the concept of the void, both physical and mental, not as absence but as a field of infinite possibilities. Inspired by quantum physics, her research investigates the dual nature of reality through waves and particles, exploring the infinite possibilities that exist before observation and the emergence of a defined state through measurement. Painting is central to her practice, which unfolds through two opposing processes: adding and subtracting colour. Through these gestures, she explores the wave as a diffuse field of possibilities and the particle as a defined presence. Her research extends into sculpture, glass, light, and site-specific installations, translating invisible phenomena and scientific concepts into physical forms. Working across architectural contexts—from historic theatres, churches, and libraries to former industrial buildings—she questions the boundaries between the visible and invisible, physical space and the mind.
