An Exhibition in Palermo: Andreas Diaz Andersson and Edoardo Dionea Cicconi

Cadogan Gallery are pleased to announce An Exhibition in Palermo; an immersive exhibition opening from 23rd June - 8th July 2023 in Palermo, Sicily. The exhibition curated by Georgina Pounds brings together new work by Mexican-Swedish artist Andreas Diaz-Andersson and Italian artist Edoardo Dionea Cicconi. Both artists previously exhibited together in Mexico City earlier in 2023 and this exhibition looks to expand further on that collaboration. The exhibition will occupy three spaces within a Baroque Palazzo overlooking the Palermo Cathedral. The exhibition presents Edoardo’s kinetic mirrors interacting with Andreas’ systematic threaded canvases as well as a new recording seen for the first time. The hyper-contemporary nature of the work will contrast with the faded beauty of the baroque space and lead to an immersive, timeless experience where reflection and distortion invite the viewer to look deeper.

Edoardo’s series “XYZT”, influenced by contemporary physics, attempts to summarise the concepts of space and time and to establish a dialogue between its phases (past, present and future) and their changes. The installation presented is a sculpture with a mirrored surface. The surface, straight and sharp, has a peculiarity: at times it reflects reality by distorting it. The image flexes and then returns to its initial appearance. This “kinetic mirrors” actually move, catching the viewer – whose image becomes distorted, disappears, and then reappears – by surprise. Viewers will “disappear” and blend in with the surrounding space. Like a sort of black hole, where everything becomes dense inside and where, even today, no one knows where this totality will end up.

A collaborative sound installation by the two artists provides a conclusive synthesis with a performance on the opening night of the 23rd of June. Both artists have a keen interest in underground music and the work presented is a compilation of field recordings from Mexico collected over the past few months by Andreas. Together the artists have built new music layer by layer. In this exhibition we experience the sound also responding to the architecture of the Sicilian Palazzo.
An Exhibition in Palermo is possible to visit by previous appointment from the 23rd June – 8th July. The opening corresponds with the dates of a project by Edoardo Dionea Cicconi opening at the Palazzo Reale a few days before on the 20th June. Initiated by Edoardo, in 2021, Palazzo Reale has become an exhibition space for international artists to present their work and explore the Sicilian art scene.
