Greek great Sofia Petropoulou at Cadogan Contemporary

This month abstract artist Sofia Petropoulou will be presented at Cadogan Contemporary.

As a leading figure in Contemporary Greek painting, the exhibition is an exciting addition to the art scene in the capital this spring. Petropoulou has shown her work in 12 individual and 15 group exhibitions in Greece and abroad and is a member of the Chamber of Fine Arts of Greece.

Petropoulou's work is influenced by both natural elements and the urban landscapes, captured in her vivid and large-scale works, which are alive with spontaneity.

Petropoulou is celebrated as one of the leading figures in Contemporary Greek painting. Her new collection of paintings drift between pure abstraction, landscape and still life. The characteristic ochre colour which she uses in the background of her works captures Sofia's talent for colour.

Her subtle, intricate application of brushstrokes and suggestion of light walk the line between abstraction and naturalism. Petropoulou's Greek heritage is evident in her works, depicted through splashes of brilliant blue, which evoke the Aegean Sea. Her works draws influences from Greek abstract painters including Yiannis Moralis.

Th exhibition is timed perfectly with Bonhams Greek art sale on 28th April, 2016. also coincides with the Greek art sale at Bonhams in April.
