Sam Lock – CARTA
CADOGAN GALLERY INAUGURATES ITS FIRST INTERNATIONAL VENUE IN MILAN WITH THE EXHIBITION CARTA BY SAM LOCK.
Active in the UK since 1980 and with an office dedicated to site specific projects in Hampshire since 2021, Cadogan Gallery is preparing to open its first international office in Milan.
The chosen location is the bright space in via Bramante 5, where the distinctive elements of Milanese architecture meet modern aesthetics. The gallery's exhibition season is inaugurated by Sam Lock, an English artist, born in 1973.
Represented by Cadogan since 2015, Lock has exhibited his work in both London and Hampshire, becoming one of the gallery's most successful and acclaimed artists.
The Carta exhibition takes its name from the medium chosen, the pages from a disused collection of art books. Lock glues the pages to the canvas creating a grid pattern on which he intervenes with his seemingly uniform signs, but in reality each one different from the other.
In doing so, an overlap is created between past and present, a link between the names of the old masters printed on the faded pages and the artist's pictorial intervention.
