Maximilian Verhas

ART Sculpture Germany 2024-10-21

My work follows the traditional requirements of sculpture by creating objects that do not remain rigid, but can move, thus redefining the concept of multiple viewings.

Maximilian Verhas was born in Essen in 1960. He studied painting and graphic arts at the Academy of Fine Arts in Nuremberg from 1981 to 1986 and sculpture at the Academy of Fine Arts in Berlin from 1986 to 1990, where he still lives and works today. His sculptures have been shown in numerous exhibitions and are represented in various private and public collections.

Maximilian Verhas has been creating his so-called rolling bodies since 1990. Objects are created that, following the traditional requirements of a sculpture, do not remain in rigidity but can be moved, thus redefining the concept of multi-viewing. Not only the usual outer sides of the sculpture become visible to the viewer in this way, but also the lower and upper sides appear equally in alternation. This possibility of varying angles of view vehemently prevents the concrete and fixed view of the respective object.
