Nuria Maria: Blues Rouge

We are pleased to announce Nuria Maria’s new solo exhibition 'Blues Rouge', opening 17 September in Milan. Nuria Maria explores a form of abstract impressionism that seeks to capture fleeting moments of our surroundings. Her paintings achieve a striking balance of familiar visual elements through a commitment to abstraction.
 
“A pleasant silent calmth in a cool room amidst the heat of the Summer - Blues Rouge describes the warm blues in the cool shades and the light in the windows. Nature and old stone. Stillifes, drawings, big stretched out landscapes and architectural details. Abstracted, detailed. Old versus new. Noise versus quiet. A warm calmth. A comfortable, positive melancholy. Inside versus outside. An appreciation for the old and a lust for the new. Like a piano in a room played into the warmth of the seasons. Blues Rouge.”

Born in the Netherlands in 1990, Nuria Maria grew up in a family of artists and was surrounded by art from an early age. She studied Cultural Studies at the University of Amsterdam and Psychology at Tilburg University before completing a BA in Fine Art at the Academy of Fine Arts Maastricht in 2014. Her work has gradually moved from figurative painting towards abstraction, while weather, landscape and light have remained at its core. Based in the Netherlands, Maria works from her studio overlooking the Limburg countryside. Her paintings have been shown in solo and group exhibitions and are held in private collections internationally.
