Richard Hearns: Nomad
Past exhibition
Cadogan are delighted to announce a new exhibition of works by Richard Hearns. This exhibition speaks to the artist's interest in exploration and travel. Following on from Enclave in 2021, Nomad imagines venturing out into the world in a departure from his last series which took comfort in the structure and support of the home. The exhibition opens on the 17th of November, accompanied by a catalogue with an introductory essay by critic Raphy Sarkissian.
While the means of travel and communication may have changed over the course of history, the people of the world and their desire to interact, to exchange, to trade goods, and to share stories has remained the same. Richard Hearns' works reference our participation in and links to this history while also connecting to his own personal history. His dual heritage as Irish-Lebanese has always greatly influenced his artworks. Articulated in his abstract paintings, his experiences and connections with the traditions of these separate locations and cultures combine to form a triangular history. Through the medium of paint he endeavours to express his understanding of his culture and of exploration, discovery and identity.
"Both intentional and accidental marks of the artist’s hand, both purposeful and irresolute expressions of gesture, both vigorous and reticent swathes of paint: such are the oppositive and dialectical givens that constitute the gestural vernacular of Richard Hearns."
- Raphy Sarkissian
